ABout Chris Newell

My artistic pactice delves deep into themes of meditation, identity, self-love, self-expression, pro-blackness, and mental health, presenting a narrative that goes beyond the surface to touch the essence of human experience. By intertwining these themes with my meditative practice, I aim to not only showcase the beauty and complexity of individuality but also to inspire other image makers to explore and embrace their own identities and narratives.

I want my work to act as a beacon, encouraging photographers to use their craft as a means of personal exploration and societal commentary, ultimately fostering a more inclusive and empathetic photographic community that values diversity and the mental well-being of its subjects and practitioners alike.

My photography journey was inspired by my background in various forms of art, including playing instruments, drawing, and acting. These experiences nurtured an appreciation for storytelling and self-expression, leading me to pursue photography during my college years at Herron School of Art + Design.
